These Christmas Cards

by Lenny Zenith

/

about

A melancholy song about preserving memories (or not).

lyrics

I need to choose which ones to keep which ones to toss
So many years of happiness and hope, now lost
This one from your Mom and friends who’ve passed on
I cannot part with them

The little lights that shine atop of our old tree
Memories fade I don’t want them a part of me
Some always last, decorating the past
these Christmas cards

These Christmas cards
They don’t belong
I’ll take them away tomorrow
Pack them up tight, and put them outside
On the curb for someone to find

They’ll look through the memories and smile
Maybe tears will fall from their eyes

Sounds of the city muted, softened by the snow
Rushing around until there’s nowhere else to go
These ones have been signed
Making the best of lost time
Will they get there on time

No one denies that there is beauty in the air
Trying to make the best of just another year
There was color in the air Before the fall
Try as we might
We lost our delight,
these Christmas cards
